BBC Jersey
BBC Radio Jersey is the BBC Local Radio service for Jersey, Channel Islands. It broadcasts from its studios at 18-21 Parade Road in Saint Helier on 88.8 FM, 1026 AM as well as online at Jersey.[2]
The station first aired on 15 March 1982, when it was opened by George Howard, then chairman of the BBC. It launched from Broadcasting House, just off Rouge Bouillon in St Helier, and moved to its present premises in Parade Road in March 1994. The radio station shares premises with BBC Channel Islands television news & the BBC Jersey Local website and is part of the BBC South West region.
BBC Radio Jersey broadcasts from 06:00 with Simon Jupp and runs through until 19:00 when regional evening programming takes over. It also broadcasts live coverage of the States of Jersey every other week on its Medium Wave frequency 1026.
Like other BBC enterprises in Jersey, funding comes primarily from television licence fees collected in Jersey itself.[3]
The current managing editor of BBC Radio Jersey is Jon Gripton. He replaced Denzil Dudley who retired after 13 years as Radio Jersey editor in October 2010.
Programming
A number of evening and weekend programmes are simulcast with BBC Local Radio stations in the South West and West regions on Radio Jersey's FM frequencies. BBC Radio Jersey broadcasts BBC Radio 5 Live on MW in the evening and on a Saturday afternoon.
